Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to some of the things I get asked the most — from what to expect at your appointment to the nitty-gritty on treatments. And if you’re still unsure about something, just drop me a message — I’m always happy to answer any quesstions or concerns you may have.
What skin concerns can IPL help with?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy can treat a range of skin concerns including acne, pigmentation, sun damage, rosacea, broken capillaries, uneven skin tone, and signs of ageing like fine lines and dullness. It’s also brilliant for overall skin rejuvenation and boosting collagen production.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe the sensation as a quick, warm flick — like an elastic band snap. It’s totally bearable, and I’ll make sure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment. I use cooling methods to keep things as gentle as possible on your skin.
How many sessions will I need?
For most skin concerns, a course of 3–6 sessions spaced around 4 weeks apart is recommended. Everyone’s skin is different, so your treatment plan will be tailored to your goals and how your skin responds.
Can I have IPL if I’m using skincare products like retinol or acids?
These types of products can make your skin more sensitive to light, so it’s best to stop using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and other active ingredients 5–7 days before your session. Don’t worry — we’ll go over all of this in your consultation to make sure your skin is prepped and ready.
What should I do before & after my treatment?
Before your treatment, avoid sun exposure, fake tan, and active skincare. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup. After your session, keep skin cool and calm — no hot baths, steam rooms, or heavy skincare for 24–48 hours. And SPF is a must, always!
Is there any downtime?
Not really — which is one of the reasons clients love it! You might experience a bit of redness or warmth for a few hours after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. Pigmentation can appear darker before fading, and makeup can usually be worn the next day.
